So, you have finally built the courage up and booked your free trial. What next?
First, we don’t bite. When you walk into the gym, you will be greeted with a smile!
People often feel nervous or anxious about going to a Muay Thai gym for the first time. When I started Muay Thai some 20 years ago, I also experienced that feeling. We are a gym that has no attitudes or ego’s, so I can assure you that any negative feelings will quickly subside.
After arriving, you can sit in our comfortable lounge area and wait for the class to begin.
Muay Thai gyms are very motivating, uplifting and loud! The first thing that you will notice (and cannot miss) is the atmosphere and noise.
The gym will be a hive of activity with people training. With people comes voices – as Muay Thai is a social activity there is a lot of communicating between members and the coaches as the class is instructed.
You will here each strike as a ‘slap’, or ‘thud’ as pad work occurs. Often our members can be fairly vocal when working hard with pad work, resembling the sounds that tennis players make when striking the ball.
The second thing you will notice is the smell of ‘liniment’ oil, which is similar to ‘deep heat’ and used for warming muscles.
Your Free Trial Class
When the class is due to begin, the trainer will introduce themselves and take you out to the training area.
Typically, you will begin your free trial class with 2 x 3 minute rounds of skipping. Following that, our coaches will teach you basic technique covering stance, footwork, punching and kicking.
Next, you will get a chance to put your new skills into action on the pads, where you will undertake drills and combination work.
The class will conclude with some basic clinching strategies, body-weight strength work, and stretching.
